In the late 19th century, George W. Scott and William H. Colbern made a significant move, purchasing approximately 80 acres of land on August 13, 1869, from Manzey Q. Ashby of Kentucky. This parcel had recently been granted by the U.S. government to Ashby just a month prior. Scott and Colbern, driven by their vision, laid out a plat for the 80 acres in December of 1871, and they bestowed upon the budding town the name “Belton.” Taking root in the heart of Missouri, Belton’s journey was characterized by a fusion of tranquil small-town charm and contemporary convenience.
By 1872, Belton had established itself as an incorporated town, a testament to its early growth and promise. The town’s name paid homage to Captain Marcus Lindsey Belt, a dear friend of Scott’s who played an instrumental role in surveying the land. Their friendship had deepened on the battlefields of the Civil War, where they fought side by side.
Present-day Belton, nestled within the embrace of the Kansas City metropolitan area, presents an attractive blend of historical significance and modern vibrancy. The community’s real estate landscape mirrors this balance, showcasing a diverse array of housing options that cater to various preferences and lifestyles. From cozy single-family homes to spacious properties, Belton offers a spectrum of choices for residents and investors alike.

Belton’s allure is further amplified by its strategic location, with major highways and conveniences close at hand. Abundant parks, schools, and local attractions further enrich the living experience, positioning Belton as a well-rounded and enticing destination within the heart of the Midwest.
